Lullaby
MKDVB began as a side project for Matt & I (MKDVB are our initials). Our main band was called Wayfarer Real and included our good friend, Byron Lynch. "Lullaby" (& "Ghosts Believe In Us") both originated from Wayfarer and I thought we had an important story to tell - it was the story of Trump's America in 2018.
I told Byron, who's African-American, that Wayfarer Real as an abstract indietronica band with a black and Asian member could make an impact if we could get our music together. Byron pointed to Matt (who's white) and asked, "what's his part in the story?" I replied, "Just being there, no better, no worse. It's enough. That's the endgame."
We weren't explicitly political in our music (it's hard to without lyrics) but in a world where identity dominates the social & political conversation, we wanted to BE THE CHANGE instead of just talking about it all the time.
Unfortunately, it's a story that still needs to be told today ... perhaps for all my remaining days.

BONUS CONTENT
This track was originally called Lullaby Alive because of the "lullaby" motif, which vaguely resembles Ghosts Believe In Us to where I often confused the two during band rehearsals! Once Wayfarer Real ended, Matt & I released Lullaby as "Morning Is A But A Moment Away" on our Christmas album. Once I finished Ghosts, I revisited Lullaby as well due to the Wayfarer connection and here's the "final" version, with the Cosmic Christmas version included as bonus content for reference. There's some harmonic & melodic additions but they're similar.
This pop-up album is the only place that contains all 3 of the Wayfarer songs: Ghosts Believe In Us, Lullaby and Ethereality/Ephemerality which is included in today's bonus content . My solo version is vastly different to the way Wayfarer played it, to the point I called that one Ephemerality. Ephemerality is exclusive to this online pop-up.
We worked on these songs for almost all of 2018 but they weren't finished until now which gives you some hint why the band ended. I knew I needed to be more active, more productive in order to improve and grow as a musician and artist. I think that difference can be heard between the two versions of Lullaby & Morning Is But A Moment Away.
I loved being in that band. Byron is one of the most talented musicians I've ever played with - so talented in fact, that it partly made our band untenable. But our relationships continue. Byron and Matt feature on the 1st two songs of this EP. Byron will feature prominently on vocals/guitar/synth on the next MKDVB EP as well.
